  • Seven people were killed after a minibus taxi and a bus collided in the Eastern Cape.
  • The crash reportedly happened when the taxi made a U-turn in front of an oncoming bus.
  • Investigations are underway, with authorities likely to open a culpable homicide case.

A horrific accident has claimed seven lives and left multiple others injured following a collision between a minibus taxi and a bus on Monday, 04 May 2026.

The incident occurred when a fully loaded minibus taxi, transporting workers from KwaNobuhle towards town, allegedly made a U-turn in front of an oncoming Algoa Bus with only the driver on board.

The bus subsequently collided with the passenger side of the taxi.

A total of eighteen people were attended to at the scene. Two sustained serious injuries, while others suffered varying degrees of injuries and were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, with a case of culpable homicide likely to be opened.
