Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has revealed the reasons for giving Orlando Pirates duo an opportunity to represent the national team for friendlies against neighbouring countries Mozambique and Botswana.

Miguel Timm has been key for The Bucs since the beginning of the season, bossing the midfield. He has played 15 matches in all competitions and played a huge role in the MTN8 Final Soweto giants clinched.

On the other hand, Monnapule Saleng came lively in the past matches and made a huge impact. The attacker has eight appearances so far, scoring five goals and providing one assist. Saleng was key in the MTN8 Final, netting the match’s only goal.

Broos explains…

Miguel Timm

“I think the qualities are clear, or he shouldn’t be here. With Miguel, I know that already in September, Miguel will be with Bafana Bafana. I’m a coach when the player is playing so good we have to prefer; he been performing since,” Broos told the media.

“He did it; Miguel every time was playing a very good game for his club. He’s here because he made good performances for his club and as he said we go with good performances for his club.

Monnapule Saleng

“I know Saleng from last year. He was in the COSAFA team, and he was playing good, but after that, he disappeared. We didn’t see him play anymore. Now in the last month, he has been great for Orlando Pirates.

“He was very good in a game against [Mamelodi] Sundowns. He went on to score again in the MTN Final. So he’s there, he has good action, quick, so why not give him a chance? I think it’s clear those two players deserve a chance in Bafana Bafana,” Broos added.

The Pirates duo is expected to be in action against Mozambique on Thursday evening. Kickoff at Mbombela Stadium is at 20:30.
