Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keagan Dolly is unfazed by Royal AM as he reckons that the side poses no cause of concern to Amakhosi ahead of the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.
Dolly claims that pressure will be on the KwaZulu-Natal side when they meet at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday, 16 April 2023. The kick-off is scheduled for 18:00.
Amakhosi cruised their way into the tournament’s quarterfinals after defeating Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars 2-1, whereas Thwihli Thwahla thrashed their arch-rivals Golden Arrows with a 3-1 scoreline in the last 16.
The Glamour Boys are gunning for their 20th Nedbank Cup final, having been the first team to win the competition in 1971.
‘AN OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY FOR SOMETHING’
Dolly is confident that Chiefs will reach the semis, as they will do everything in their power to bring back the glory days at the club.
“This is the opportunity for us to play for something. It’s a different game from a league game. We have to win no matter how we play,” Dolly told the club’s media department.
“What is important for us is to get to the semifinals. Royal AM are a good team but we did beat them the last time we played against them. That will give us confidence for this game.
“We want to get into the semifinal and, ultimately, lift the cup for our supporters.”
The Soweto giants have only lost three times at the quarterfinals phase since 1996/97. Those defeats were against Baroka in [2010/11], Free State Stars [2011/12], and SuperSport United [2016/17].
‘BEING A CHIEFS PLAYER IS MOTIVATION TO LIFT TROPHIES’
Meanwhile, Chiefs’ youngster Samkelo Zwane added that the club’s rich tradition of winning trophies will be a big motivator going into this game.
“The history of the Club winning trophies is a big motivator. Being a Kaizer Chiefs player, in itself, is a motivator to lift trophies,” explained Zwane.
“Winning things for the club and making a legacy and being remembered as a legend is of paramount importance.”
