Kaizer Chiefs beat Stellenbosch FC 2-1 in a DStv Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

Amakhosi started the game brightly pushing forward in numbers and using their home-ground advantage.

In the 12th minute of the showdown, Arthur Zwane‘s charges broke the deadlock from a spot kick after Ashley Du Preez was brought down in the box.

Du Preez was the one who stood up to convert the penalty after sending goalkeeper Sage Stephens the wrong way.

This was the 10th penalty for Chiefs in the 2022/23 campaign.

Just four minutes after the restart, Stellies were reduced to 10 men after Stephens received a red card for a tactical foul.

With Chiefs playing with an extra man, the Soweto giants side used their numerical advantage wisely as they added the scoreline through Keagan Dolly in the 25th minute.

The Glamour Boys totally floored Stellies in the first period, as Zwane’s boys kicked off the showpiece on the front foot until the half-time break.

In the second stanza, Steve Barker’s troops upped the ante from there on and pulled one back courtesy of Ibraheem Jabaar.

After that Stellies goal, Chiefs were guilty of wasteful finishing as they failed to add to the scoreline despite several half chances.

But the unfazed visitors, on the other hand, tried to be the better side, but Amakhosi stood their ground.

However, the hosts regained their momentum and kept on frightening the life out of the Winelands outfit, with the game coming to an end.

Amakhosi put on a fanatic defensive show of class to force a win as Stellies tried to find an equaliser.

As a result, Amakhosi remain fourth on the log standings with 40 points after 24 outings.

Whereas, Stellenbosch sit in the eighth position with 30 points from the same number of games played by their counterparts.
