The Western Cape government has held urgent talks to ensure contingency plans are in place to ease the effects of power cuts.

Western Cape local government MEC Anton Bredell says the shift in stages will give the province a breather.

The country was hit with stage 6 rolling blackouts last week.

These have since been downgraded to stage 3.

Eskom will continue to implement power cuts this week at stage 3 and stage 4.
