Three men accused of murdering four people in Reiger Park, including two police officers, are expected to continue their formal bail application on Tuesday.
Regan Collins, Jamal Meyer and Elvino Crafford face four counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The matter is being heard in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.
Officers killed responding to gunfire
The case relates to a shooting in Reiger Park earlier in August.
Two Anti-Gang Unit officers were among four people killed after the officers responded to reports of gunfire.
Collins and Meyer were initially arrested in connection with the killings, while Crafford later became the third suspect taken into custody.
The three accused are now appearing together as they seek to be released on bail.
The State is expected to present its case opposing their release.
Third suspect alleges police assault
Crafford appeared in court on Friday following his arrest.
During that appearance, he allegedly showed the court bruises on his face and claimed police officers had assaulted him during his arrest.
The court ordered that Crafford receive medical treatment following the allegation.
Crafford is also said to be related to Collins.
No finding has been made on his allegation of assault.
State expected to oppose bail
The State is expected to continue presenting arguments against granting bail to the three accused.
The men face serious charges stemming from the Reiger Park shooting, including four murder counts and attempted murder.
Their formal bail proceedings follow Crafford’s arrest, which brought all three accused before the same court.
The case has drawn attention because two of those killed were Anti-Gang Unit police officers responding to gunfire.
The Boksburg Magistrate’s Court will now consider arguments from the State and the accused as the formal bail application continues.
