How to make your perfume last longer in warmer weather

Warm weather can be wonderful, but it can also make your favourite fragrance fade faster than expected. Heat causes perfume to evaporate more quickly, meaning you may notice the scent disappearing within a few hours.

Fortunately, a few simple habits can help your fragrance last longer without overapplying it.

Start with moisturised skin

Cosmopolitan clarifies that dry skin doesn’t hold perfume as well as moisturised or oily skin does. Before applying your fragrance, use an unscented body lotion or moisturiser to create a base that helps lock in the scent.

Applying perfume straight after a shower, while your skin is still slightly damp, can also improve longevity.

Apply to pulse points

Spray perfume onto pulse points where your body naturally generates warmth. As reported by GQ South Africa, common pulse points that work well include the wrists, neck, behind the knees and right behind your ears.

These areas gently diffuse the fragrance throughout the day. Avoid rubbing your wrists together after spraying, as this can break down the fragrance molecules and alter the scent.

Spray clothing with care

Lightly misting clothing can help a fragrance last longer because fabric often holds scent better than skin.

However, always test delicate fabrics first, as some perfumes may stain silk, satin or other sensitive materials.

Choose stronger fragrance concentrations

If you find that your perfume fades quickly in hot weather, consider switching to an eau de parfum instead of an eau de toilette.

Eau de parfum contains a higher concentration of fragrance oils, making it more long-lasting, even on warmer days.

Store perfume correctly

According to Fraganote, heat, humidity and direct sunlight can degrade a fragrance over time. Store your perfume in a cool, dry place away from windows and bathrooms to help preserve its quality and scent.

With the right application techniques and proper storage, you can enjoy your favourite fragrance from morning to evening, even during the warmest days.
