The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has announced that a fresh vote will be conducted at a voting station in the Northern Cape after political party activists allegedly stormed the station and destroyed ballot papers before counting could take place.
The IEC confirmed during the official announcement of the 2026 Local Government Election results on Sunday, 8 November, that the affected results would be withheld pending a re-vote.
The Commission says electoral legislation allows for a re-vote where ballot papers are lost, destroyed or unlawfully removed before counting.
The date of the re-vote has not yet been announced.
