Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda FC have moved swiftly to arrest their poor start to the season by appointing experienced coach Kaitano Tembo as their new head coach, with Fani Mthethwa joining him as his assistant.
Tembo takes over from Clinton Larsen, who was shown the door following a difficult opening five matches that left the Thohoyandou-based side rooted to the bottom of the league table.
Venda FC have collected just one point from a possible 15, having managed a single draw while suffering four defeats.
Their poor start has also been reflected in their defensive record. The Limpopo outfit have conceded nine goals, the highest number in the division so far, while scoring only three. Their goal difference stands at minus six.
Tembo’s immediate mandate will be to rescue Venda FC from the bottom of the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings and restore confidence within the squad.
Once the team has moved away from danger, the former coach will be expected to build momentum and guide Venda FC towards a positive league campaign.
The club management believes Tembo’s experience and knowledge of South African football can help turn the team’s fortunes around.
His appointment comes at a crucial stage of the season, with Venda FC needing an immediate improvement in results to avoid being dragged into a prolonged battle at the bottom of the table.
Tembo and Mthethwa will now have the task of rebuilding the team’s confidence, tightening up a defence that has leaked goals and finding greater consistency in front of goal.
The new technical team is expected to begin work immediately as Venda FC look to put their disappointing opening five matches behind them and launch a fightback in the Championship.
