Puleng March uses her voice to give back to the youth

South African gospel singer Puleng March is building a cultural activist role in her mission to give back to her community by helping youth believe in themselves.

The singer is currently mentoring a group of 20 young people from the township of Tshepisong. She has tasked herself with teaching them the intricate details of the music industry.

Puleng March shares her inspiration

As reported by Daily Sun, Puleng stated that she was inspired to start this project after she was invited to minister, while a choir of young people provided backing vocals. She added that she fell in love with the church and the congregation, so much so that she found herself suggesting to the pastor that she do a project with them.

The young singers were initially discouraged, as they were told they couldn’t sing and thus would never be able to record. The multi-award-winning singer felt she related deeply to them, as she, too, was criticised for her vocal abilities.

According to Daily Sun, Puleng wanted to make what was once impossible for the young singer possible.

Puleng March’s other charities

Puleng is also currently helping raise funds to build a church in Kimberly, reports Daily Sun. She was part of a fundraising concert along with other artists to help Pastor Mawes, 76, who is also known for helping her own community.

The singer sold out the show, with help from performing artists, including Lebo Sekgobela, Mmatema and Mpumi Mtsweni, with Pastor Solly Malhangu donating R10 000.

Puleng explained that giving back was part of her childhood, and she understands the impact of helping others and how much she loves making others happy.
