Olwethu Makhanya on target, rescues point for Rangers

Bafana Bafana centre-back Olwethu Makhanya scored his first goal for Glasgow Rangers on Wednesday night.

Rangers visited Hearts in a league encounter at Tynecastle Park where the two sides played to a thrilling 2-2 draw.

OLWETHU MAKHANYA NETS HIS FIRST GOAL FOR RANGERS

Makhanya was named in the starting line-up for the match against Hearts, and he marshaled the Rangers defence well in the first half.

Rangers took the lead as early as the 16th minute through Kelsy, and the visitors took that lead into the halftime break.

Hearts, however, came back stronger after the restart, firing twice within the opening 13 minutes of the second half.

With almost everyone certain that Hearts were walking away with maximum points, Makhanya pounced and scored in the 89th minute.

This was the 22-year-old’s first goal for Rangers in what was his 15th official appearance since joining the club in July.

And the goal proved to be very important as it rescued a point for Rangers who are second on the log with 24 points from 11 league games.

Makhanya and his teammates are four points behind rivals Celtic with both teams having played the same number of games.

His confidence is growing game-by-game in Europe, and this would certainly help Bafana Bafana ahead of their back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Kenya in November.

IS THE 22-YEAR-OLD DESTINED FOR GREATNESS IN EUROPE?
