Cassper Nyovest speaks on his latest single
South African rap star Cassper Nyovest has admitted that stepping onto the stage to perform his latest single, Phunyuka Bamphethe, for the first time left him unexpectedly nervous.
Despite years of dominating the local hip hop scene and performing in front of massive crowds, the award-winning artist revealed that debuting a new song live still comes with pressure and uncertainty.
Taking to social media after the performance, Cassper confessed that the experience pushed him far outside his comfort zone.
“Went to go and perform today. Performed #PhunyukaBamphethe for the first time, and it was so scary,” he shared.
The rapper explained that he normally prefers allowing songs to gain popularity naturally before introducing them into his live sets.
According to him, testing fresh material in front of audiences is not something he is used to doing regularly.
“I’m not used to doing new songs, or rather promoting songs. I usually wait for the song to grow so it doesn’t get awkward on stage,” he added.
Cassper’s honesty gave fans a rare glimpse into the realities of being an established artist, showing that even some of the industry’s biggest stars still deal with moments of doubt when experimenting with new music.
However, the rapper also made it clear that he is intentionally approaching this phase of his career differently.
Instead of relying entirely on his already established reputation and catalogue of hits, Cassper hinted that he wants to rebuild momentum around his new music from the ground up.
