Tensions flared inside the Johannesburg High Court on Tuesday as Political Killings Task Team officers clashed with Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his co-accused.

Defence lawyers had requested time to consult with their clients after proceedings ended early, but officers instructed the accused to return downstairs to the holding cells.

The accused refused to leave, insisting they wanted to remain in court to consult with their lawyers and saying they would stay until 4pm if necessary.

Judge Cassim Moosa later intervened and ruled that defence counsel may consult with the accused when proceedings adjourn early.
