Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane was left disappointed that his side failed to beat Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, which would’ve been an early birthday present to chairman Kaizer Motaung.
Chiefs boss Motaung is turning 78 today, having formed Chiefs in 1970 before it became one of the most loved and supported clubs in the country.
However, Chippa spoiled the party despite after Chiefs were unable to hang onto their 1-0 first-half lead.
“I’m more than disappointed,” said Zwane when asked by iDiski Times of the missed opportunity to hand his chair a birthday gift.
“In terms of the result, yes. I think this could have been a very good present for the chairman, more especially playing at home. We were on the roll in terms of not losing games at home, that’s another thing that makes me disappointed.
“When we scored first, even when it’s not your day in terms of the way we want to execute ourselves, then you get another opportunity and you could see that at any given time we would get the second one. But their keeper (Loydt Kazapua) made a good save.
“Then from there, they equalised and then they got the second goal. I can simply say it wasn’t to be. We could have done better in terms of taking our chances. We could have easily given the chairman a very good present. I’m disappointed. I hate to lose more, especially games like this where at some point we were in control of it.”

Chiefs had plenty of chances through Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, Keagan Dolly and Siyethemba Sithebe, but all of them missed with goal yawning in front of them.
But what pained Zwane more than to lose was failing to repay the chairman Motaung with a win before his birthday after he handed him a job at the beginning of the season when little expected him to.
“The chairman has been in the game for many years. He has lived his football for all his life and we wanted to give him a good present. But I’m really disappointed in myself and we will get it right at some point,” he said.
While this is a first loss at “home” for Chiefs this season, it was the second win for Chippa against Chiefs in the last four matches.
