After suffering a fourth successive defeat in the DStv Premiership Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Arthur Zwane said Amakhosi need to look at how to move forward, as perhaps some of the players at the club are not good enough for the club.
Chiefs lost his third game in a row since Stuart Baxter parted ways with the club as City won 2-1 at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, to make it the first time in the PSL era that Chiefs lost four successive games.
Zwane, when asked about squad selection and making changes, said that while there were many factors, he thought it best to give those who have been playing regularly a second chance, but perhaps they need to be introspective.
“Look, we had to balance the scale, looking at games coming back-to-back,” Zwane said after the loss to City.
“We needed to make sure that we share match minutes, there’s players who are sick, who are down with flu and those obviously haven’t been playing regularly.
“So if you want to bring them on board now and throw them into the deep end, you might also break them. So the only thing that you can do as a coach is to try and give those who have been playing regularly, the opportunity, a second chance, and see if they can rise to the occasion.
“But it might be maybe a case of mental block, or, having been in a situation where it’s bigger than you, because Kaizer Chiefs is a massive brand. So they can’t maybe change their mindset and get to another level.
“So we just have to accept that the team that we’ve got players, but some are maybe not good enough to be here.
“And obviously, that needs for us going forward, we need to look at ourselves as a club, and obviously introspection in terms of making changes going forward.”
