Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has praised Mamelodi Sundowns as a club which built their success on continuity over the last few years to become the “beast” they are today.
Masandawana currently lead the DStv Premiership log, sitting currently 14 points ahead of second-placed Richards Bay and 19 points ahead of Chiefs.
Sundowns have also won 11 games in a row and could set a new Premier Soccer League record should they beat Zwane and his men on Saturday at FNB Stadium.
With Downs being runaway leaders and in line to lift their sixth successive league trophy, Zwane insisted their success is built on continuity – something his club is trying to built as well.
“It talks about continuity,” he said on Thursday.
“Continuity is everything in football. Look at where they come from, how they started building. They also had challenges.
“They were in a situation where no one saw them becoming a beast or something unstoppable.
“Because of the picture they had and the belief in the technical team then and when the head coach left [Pitso Mosimane] the continuity was there was well.
“We as a club, as I said, we’re focussing on ourselves. It’s not by mistake that they’re grinding mistakes week in, week out but you must’ve seen they’ve also created their own luck because of the way they’re playing.
“You look at the past two games that they’ve played, you look at the performances of the other teams, they were just unfortunate not to score goals, maybe the game [could’ve] ended I a draw.
“That’s football for you, you create your own luck and they’ve done well and credits should be given to them.
“So obviously it’s a challenge to us, to look at ourselves and do introspection and see where we can improve to challenge them.”
