New Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has told the story of how he started in coaching and how he learnt from former Chiefs mentor Muhsin Ertugral when he was still a player.

Zwane was unveiled officially as the Chiefs coach this week, having served as a caretaker since the departure of Stuart Baxter.

Zwane was speaking to Thabiso Mosia on SAFM Sport On this week, when he explained how he first started coaching at his own team, Meadowlands Galatasaray, when he was still a player, copying the tactics from then Chiefs coach Ertugral.

“Ja, look, coming from the dusty streets of Soweto, it’s every child’s dream to play for a team of Kaizer Chiefs calibre,” Zwane told SAFM Sport On.

“And also get the opportunity to coach it at a later stage. So I think being given the opportunity to also inspire a lot of youngsters and those who also want to prosper in life using football or any sport as a tool.

“So, ja, it’s been difficult, it’s been a rough journey. As you know, after I quit playing football, I became a coach.

“But I started coaching while I was still playing anyway, so I had my own team and I think the team prepared me very well.

“And, ja, by the time I decided to stop playing, I think I was already familiar with certain things.

“And also, I was learning a lot that time from the coach who was at Kaizer Chiefs at that time, which was Muhsin Ertugral.

“So, most of the tactics that we used in my team, was actually how Kaizer Chiefs played at that time, and ja, the team dominated for four years, if not five years, until I decided to sell the status.”
