Bafana Bafana’s brace hero in Saturday’s international friendly win over Sierra Leone, Themba Zwane, has said it felt good to be back in the national set-up.
Speaking to SAFA’s Romy Titus, Zwane said he was happy with his contribution, especially scoring the brace.
“Obviously, I’m feeling happy. We did well as a team. And ja, we did what we were supposed to do in the field,” Zwane told SAFA media.
“Ja, the favourite part for my game, it was scoring two goals, it’s been long for me (to) score goals for the national team. So ja, I’m happy.”
Zwane said he didn’t feel like he had any point to prove after not being called up by Broos in the Belgian’s first year in charge, and was just happy to be part of the team.
“Not at all, I was just enjoying my game and showing the appreciation for the call up,” Zwane said.
“And ja, it always feels good to be called up. And ja, that’s why I was doing my job.”
The 33-year-old said he is enjoying being part of the national team again, and when asked about Broos’ complimentary comments after the game, said he feels he suits the coach’s tactics, but needs to keep working to make sure he gets more call ups.
“All I can say is coaches, they have different philosophies and the coach has different philosophies,” Zwane continued. ”
And ja, I think the style of play, it suits me and maybe I can say that, but obviously, I need to keep on pushing, there are more games coming, and I need to do well for my team so that I can be called up for the national team.
“Ja, it felt good to be back in the national team. You know, as I said, last previous of my interview, that I respect the coach’s decision, but I will wait for my chance to come. And it came.
“And to be in the camp it felt good with the guys and the understanding that we have. And some of the guys I play with in the same team, they told me that no, the camp is always good, we’re having fun and the training is nice. Ja, I’m enjoying myself.”
