Zwai Bala reflects on profound memories after visit to former music teacher

A teacher’s love and faith in their learners plays an instrumental role in their growth and development for years to come.

Zwai Bala exemplifies this, having visited his former music teacher over the weekend. The visit was simply one for the books as he felt “overwhelmed with emotion and a very deep appreciation.”

ZWAI BALA’S SYMBOLIC STOP OVER IN KNYSNA

In the middle of his moving plans from Cape Town to the Wild Coast (Eastern Cape), South African music icon Zwai Bala paid a special visit to his former music teacher Mrs. Moira Schafer at her home in Knysna.

The TKZee member shared a photo of himself with Mrs. Schafer on Instagram. He revealed that Mrs. Schafer, who will celebrate her 88th birthday in June, played a pivotal role in the musician he turned out to be.

Among his accomplishments while under the guidance of Mrs. Schafer as his teacher was clinching a scholarship in the United Kingdom. This came after Zwai’s brilliant voice exam mark in grade eight, conducted by the Association Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Zwai, who’s also part of The Bala Family reality TV show, reflected on his fond experience with Mrs. Schafer and the influence her “extraordinary teaching” had on his life.

“My day is so made. As we make the big move from Cape Town to the Wild Coast, [we] decided to stop over in Knysna and see my high school music teacher, Mrs. Moira Schafer. She turns 88 in June. Moira represents such a bright light in my music training and performance.”
