AmaZulu chairman Sandile Zungu has conceded defeat in the South African Football Association (SAFA) presidential race and congratulated incumbent Danny Jordaan on his re-election.
Zungu, who challenged Jordaan at Saturday’s SAFA Elective Congress at Vodaworld in Midrand, Johannesburg, received 82 votes, while Jordaan secured 157 votes to win a fourth term.
Taking to Facebook after the election, Zungu accepted the outcome, saying: “Such is the nature of contestations. You win some and lose some. I lost and have personally congratulated Dr Danny Jordaan.”
He said he remained in good spirits despite the defeat.
Zungu also thanked those who backed his campaign for change in South African football.
“Thank you everyone for believing I can champion the much-needed change in South African football. The voting delegates at the SAFA Elective Congress didn’t believe so,” he said.
