The second day of the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs kicked off on a cold Wednesday morning where Western Cape champions Zizwe United battled with Dikwena United in what was a ‘Do or Die’ for the Free State side.

Zizwe started like a house on fire scoring inside five minutes after a lovely volley from Mpokotya. Right at the end of the end goal poacher Mpho Erasmus made it 2-0 and it was clear that Dikwena’s road was coming to an end.

Group D got underway, with Magesi coming to the game with three points already after their win yesterday against Real Madrid. After a quiet first Nala, the sharp winger of Eastern Cape champions Spear Of The Nation found the back of just four minutes after half-time.

Magesi found the back of the net from their Captain Raseona after a lovely header. Right at the end Magesi got a penalty, Ngoepe stepped up and made it 2-1 and that was not done minutes later Magesi handled the ball in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot, Mavundla took the initiative and made it 2-2.

The hosts’ North-West Soccer Institution kicked off the last game of the day in a packed stadium against Sarbie Bayern which need a win to remain in the race for the knockout stages.

NWU took the lead in the 30th minute after a blunder from Bayern’s goalkeeper but just before the halftime, Bayern was reduced to ten men after receiving a red card.

The second half kicked off at a good pace with both teams looking to get a goal, Lizo Mjempu’s side got a penalty but Nhlanhla Masina blasted it over the crossbar.

NWU enjoyed with a perfect start in the campaign by winning by 1-0 just weeks after being given a lifeline by being named North West champions by virtue of an administration blunder by Black Eagles.
