Zandile Gumede’s trial date set for 18 July

Former eThekwini mayor, Zandile Gumede’s trial date has been set.

Gumede will appear in the High Court in Pietermaritzburg on 18 July.

Together with 21 co-accused, she faces about 2000 charges, including fraud, money laundering, and racketeering.

The matter relates to a multi-million rand Durban solid waste tender awarded in 2017.

Gumede is currently out on R50,000 bail.

She was removed from her mayoral position in 2019.
