Through a partnership with the cryptocurrency exchange Coinme, the P2P payment service MoneyGram has launched a new service that lets users buy, sell, and hold cryptocurrency through the MoneyGram app.

Users in almost all US states and DC can now buy, sell, and store Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Litecoin (LTC) (LTC).

“We see crypto and digital currencies as another way to send and receive money,” says Alex Holmes, chairman and CEO of MoneyGram. “They are the next step in MoneyGram’s evolution,” he adds.

The new service builds on MoneyGram’s existing partnership with Coinme, a licensed cryptocurrency exchange and API-driven crypto-as-a-service provider.

Since 2021, MoneyGram and Coinme have worked together to make it easier for people to buy and sell Bitcoin with cash at thousands of new locations in the US.

MoneyGram plans to add more crypto coins to its list as the company looks to expand to other markets in 2023, if regulations will let it.

The crypto infrastructure company Wyre teamed up with MoneyGram earlier this year so that users could turn their digital assets directly into cash.
