Wydad Athletic Club head coach Walid Regragui has resigned after just one season despite lifting the double with the Moroccan giants, who are understood to be interested in Pitso Mosimane.
Regragui who won the Moroccan Cup and Botola Pro with FUS Rabat during his tenure between 2013 and 2016 is among the most highly-rated coaches on the continent at present.
After his success with the unfancied club, he went on to win the Qatari Pro League with Al Duhail in 2019/20 before being lured back to Morocco with Wydad this season.
And it’s been a resounding success with the CAF Champions League, Botola title wrapped up. He could’ve even lifted the treble but his side lost the Moroccan Cup final to RS Berkane.
On Sunday, Regragui has announced his decision to leave Wydad, with iDiski Times being reliably informed that he felt he’s taken the team as far as he can with the limitations at present.
While the 46-year-old, who recently underwent his CAF Pro License alongside the likes of Florent Ibenge, Aliou Cisse and Mosimane, has been linked with a sensational move to the Morocco national team, it appears highly unlikely that the FRMF will pull the plug on Vahid Halilhodžić.
Meanwhile, the current CAF Champions League holders have shown interest in the three-time CAF Champions League winner, Mosimane as potential replacement, according to iDiski Times sources, but there has been no contact yet. In addition, it is also believed that the South African’s demands may be out of reach for Wydad.
For now, Mosimane and has his technical team have started their Master Classes, having spent the weekend with Royal AM and are expected to visit Young Africans in Tanzania next.
