Wydad Athletic Club advanced to the CAF Champions League final with a 4-2 aggregate win over Petro de Luanda after the 1-1 draw at the Stade Mohamed V on Friday evening.

Wydad came into the game as the clear favourites after their 3-1 win away in Luanda. The Red and White conjured up more of the same by soaking up the pressure while Petro enjoyed most of the possession similar to the first leg.

Good combinations in the early stages through the thirds by Petro but it was handled well by Wydad.

The deadlock was broken by Brazilian winger Gleison Moreira when he came inside off the wing and unleashed a left-footed low driving shot that landed in the back of the net.

The equaliser didn’t take too long as seven minutes after; with a close-range header by Amine Farhane from a corner to set the winds of the sails of the visitors and head coach Alexandre Santos.

The second stanza was far more even in terms of possession, including a lot of start-stop situations. Both teams giving as much as they can get. The introduction of Yano led to more chances for the boys from Angola but not enough to get those elusive two goals to take the tie to extra time.

Wydad will now await to see who joins them in the final between Al Ahly and ES Setif – where they will contest for the coveted trophy in Casablanca on 30 May.
