A 43-year-old woman was allegedly murdered in the presence of her 12-year-old son at the Cornubia Flats in Cornubia, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday morning, 8 August 2026.
Concerned neighbours contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance at approximately 06:19. Upon arrival, reaction officers found the woman’s lifeless body outside her home near the front door. Her 39-year-old boyfriend, who was heavily intoxicated, remained at the scene.
According to the child, his stepfather assaulted and strangled his mother during an argument at around 05:00. The boy could not confirm what sparked the altercation and fled next door to his aunt’s residence for help.
Officers restrained the suspect after speaking to the minor. Blood was noticed on the man’s shirt, and he had sustained a burst lip, believed to have occurred during the altercation with the victim.
The child told officers this was not the first such incident and that he had previously witnessed the suspect assaulting his mother on several occasions.
