New Mamelodi Sundowns signing Ronwen Williams has spoken for the first time since his move from SuperSport United to Masandwana was confirmed.
Williams joined SuperSport’s development when he was just 12 years old and lifted six trophies, namely three Nedbank Cup trophies, two MTN 8 trophies,and one Telkom Knockout as senior player in his 18 years with the club.
DStv Premiership champions announced that the Bafana Bafana captain signed a five-year contract, making him the third player joining Downs from United in a space of five months after Teboho Mokoena and Sipho Mbule.
“I feel amazing, there is a lot of excitement, finally I’m here. I’m happy to be part of such a prestigious team in South Africa and in Africa as a whole, I feel at home already,” he told his new club.
“Sundowns has a wonderful record of adding trophies, I am looking forward to adding to the trophy cabinet.
“I have seen the Yellow Nation at the stadium, I’ve witnessed the atmosphere that they create for the players, they really are the 12th man and I’m excited to play for them – I am going to give my utmost best.”
Williams also admitted that his move is a dream come true after spending 18 years at Matsatsantsa.
”I’ve been in the game for such a long time, I’m ready for the challenge and I’m ready to add on the quality that is here,” he said in his announcement video.
“They’ve got a winning mentality and you can sense it. Like they say the Sky is the limit. It’s a dream come true for me I can’t wait to play in front of the Masandawana fans, let’s see good things coming.”
With Sundowns doing a clean sweep last season domestically this will be a perfect time for Williams to prove himself. However, he will have tough competition for the spot between the sticks by Dennis Onyango, Kennedy Mweene, and Riyaad Pietersen.
