It’s back to the drawing board for Kobamelo Kodisang’s management team after his loan move to Portuguese Premier League side Desportivo de Chavez collapsed.
The former South Africa youth international’s team SC Braga had agreed to loan him to fellow Portugal side Chavez.
However, the player had to return to his parent club after the two parties could not agree on the terms of the agreement.
On Saturday, Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda tweeted: “Kodisang’s move to Desportivo de Chaves has just fallen. The player leaves Chaves and returns to Braga due to lack of agreement between clubs.”
The 22-year-old forward, who had a memorable tournament at the last Olympics, was a target of Kaizer Chiefs during this off-season. However, nothing came out of the Soweto giants’ interest. His former coach Cavin Johnson, who gave him his topflight debut at 15, advised him to stay in Europe.
He believes his game will develop better and faster overseas.
The former Platinum Stars and Bidvest Wits winger has been at Braga for the last three years.
He is, however, yet to make his topflight breakthrough, and a move to Chavez was thought to be a step in that direction.
The latest development now means he will return to pre-season training with the Braga B team as he hopes to get his breakthrough to the topflight finally. He has featured 56 times on the reserve side for the club, registering 16 goals.
He debuted for the senior team towards the end of the 2021/22 season in a match against Estoril, which ended in a goalless draw.
The Portuguese league kicks off on August 5, with the last game of the season set for 29 May 2023. Kodisang has been overlooked by the senior national team coach Hugo Broos and will be hoping to finally catch his attention this season.
He remains one of South Africa’s most promising wingers, tipped to have a bright international future.
