Mandla Mthembu, the ex-husband of actress Khanyi Mbau passed away after suffering two strokes on Sunday 21 September.

MANDLA MTHEMBU PASSED AWAY AFTER TWO STROKES

Former businessman Mandla Mthembu died at the age of 68 after suffering two strokes on Sunday 21 September at a hospital in New York. He was reportedly living in New York for a few years. Mthembu would have turned 69 in December. His family reportedly plans on brining his body to Soweto, Johannesburg for the burrial.

“Throughout his life, Mr Mthembu was known for his entrepreneurial spirit, his contribution to South Africa’s business landscape and his commitment to the values of the ANC. His legacy will be remembered by many across the country,” read a statement shared by the family.

Mthembu was married to Khanyi Mbau for three years from 2006 to 2009. The late businessman was around 30 years older than the actress. The pair have a daughter named Khanukani together. Mthembu was known to spoil Khanyi, and some also called him her “sugar daddy”. The pair were once the “it” couple known for their lavish lifestyle, including having matching yellow lamborghinis. 

Following their divorce, Mthembu disappeared from the spotlight and not much was known about him or his life.

  • Mandla was known to be a businessman.
  • According to Briefly, Mandla became rich when Sechaba Printing successfully sued Transnet parastatal after selling its printing business, Transnet Production House, to Skotaville Press. This was a firm he claimed had ANC links back in 1998.
  • Mthembu reportedly suffered financial issues which resulted in his assets being sold or repossessed.
  • He reportedly married Khanyi when she was just 21 years old.
  • Before Khanyi, Mandla was married to Dolly Matshabe.
