On Friday evening DStv Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs announced the departure of midfielder Njabulo Blom to Major League Soccer outfit St. Louis SC. FARPost looks at few interesting things you need to know about the club.
Blom leaves the Soweto giants after many in search of greener pastures. He joined Amakhosi when he was a teenager playing for the development side. He played in the DStv Diski Challenge before he was promoted to the first team.
HEAD COACH
St. Louis SC is coached by former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana defender Bradley Carnell. The former New York Red Bulls assistant coach was appointed on 5 January 2022 to take charge.
HISTORY OF THE CLUB
St Louis SC is a fairly new club. It was founded on 20 August 2019. That is the day they joined Major League Soccer. Their bid to join the top-flight league was accepted by MLS Expansion Committee as they want to expand the number of teams to 30.
LEAGUE THEY WILL PLAY AT
The Missouri outfit will play their football in the United States of America top flight as of 2023. The league is divided into two – the Eastern and the Western Conference.
St Louis fall under the Western Conference with the likes of Los Angeles Galaxy, Minnesota and Real Salt Lake.
The 2023 season starts on 26 February 2023. St. Louis open their account away from home against Austin FC. The club will play their home matches at 22 500-seater stadium, City Park.
SQUAD MEMBERS
Most players in the team are USA nationals. However, there are other foreign nationals who have experience.
They got Germany duo striker Joao Klauss and defender Eduard Lowen, Swedish international Joakim Nilsson and Canadian defender Kwame Awuah.
