1985 | In the second-worst bus accident in South African history, a double-decker bus carrying 76 students from Hoorskool Vorentoe crashed into the Westdene Dam, resulting in the deaths of 42 people. Most of the children who died were buried at Westpark Cemetery.

1998 | Viagra became the first medication to address erectile dysfunction in the United States after receiving approval from the Food and Drug Administration.

2002 | Nanterre Massacre: In Nanterre, France, a gunman starts fire at the end of a town council meeting, killing eight council members and injuring 19 others.

1915 | TYPHIOID Mary was placed in quarantine for a second time, where she would stay for the remainder of her life. Mary was the first healthy carrier of disease ever discovered in the United States.
