Onlookers gathered outside the Atrium Shopping Centre in Overport, Durban, following a tragic incident that claimed the life of a 76-year-old man on Thursday.
Emergency workers swiftly responded to the scene after an SUV smashed through a wall, resulting in a fatal accident.
The vehicle involved, a navy VW T-Cross, was found on its roof after plunging from the third storey of the building.
The driver was trapped inside the car, and it is believed that he experienced medical complications just as he was about to exit the parkade. Video footage from the parkade shows the SUV narrowly missing other parked cars before crashing into the wall.

A concerned neighbour was the first to arrive on the scene, followed by emotional family members. The man’s nephew declined to comment, only confirming his uncle’s age. Paramedics treated a family member who was overcome with emotion.
