In the first episode of Generations The Legacy, we got introduced to Letoya Makhene playing the character Tshidi Phakade. Her role was controversial but very entertaining in many ways. Before Generations The Legacy, we knew her as the calm and sweet Ayanda Sibeko from Isidingo.

After several ups and downs of her character on Generations The Legacy, the actress bid goodbye to the soapie but looked to return in the future. She has left and returned to the show quite a number of times now.

In real life, she is slaying the role of being a gobela, a traditional healer with a higher role who can teach new initiates how to be a traditional healer.

In a recent Instagram video, she showed herself proud of her initiates. She and a fellow gobela thanked ancestors for guiding them to living and healing daily. They did so in a humbling and respectful manner that is deemed the most appropriate in the traditional healing space. The initiates should be obedient and submissive to the lessons taught to them.

More often than not, she reminds her initiates how important it is to have this gift of healing. She also emphasizes how being a healer can’t hinder a person from reaching their full potential. There is a misconception that healers can’t have a life outside their gift. With her juggling her passions and career, the actress is a clear example of how it is done.

She has shared content of herself, reminding her initiates that the gift should not be misused for darkness. In some of her past interviews, she has frowned upon witchcraft and how it shouldn’t be practised. Instead, traditional healing should be embodied to empower others so they embrace their gifts.

Word to gobelas in Mzansi.

A few weeks ago, she shared an image of herself sitting on a couch as her initiates were kneeling and bowing down. She captioned the photo with the words they should be trained when they come for training. The actress said gobelas should not take advantage of these people or instil fears in them.

A lot of times, we hear so many horror stories of abuse from initiation schools. Letoya advocates that this stops as it hinders the intent of the Mzansi spiritual realm.
