Warren Killian’s Top Make-up Tips for the Perfect Selfie 2025

South Africans love a good photo moment, whether it is brunch with friends in Sandton or a wedding celebration in Durban. But while the outfit may be on point, the camera often tells a different story when it comes to make-up. Durban-based artist Warren Killian, well known in beauty circles, has shared a few insider tricks on how to look flawless in every snap.

Matte over dewy for the lens

The glowing, dewy trend is still big on social media, but Killian points out that what looks beautiful in person can backfire on camera. Flash photography often makes dewy skin look shiny or even oily. His advice for 2025: stick to matte foundations for long events where cameras will be flashing.

The secret is in the powder

Killian swears by powder for achieving that airbrushed look. A touch along the T-zone helps cut out unwanted shine. If you have naturally dry skin, a lighter hand or skipping powder altogether can save you from looking cakey under harsh lighting.

Colour of the year: Mocha Mouse

Fashion watchers have celebrated Pantone’s 2025 Colour of the Year, Mocha Mouse, a warm brown shade that Killian says works across all skin tones. He recommends using this as a neutral anchor, since it flatters every outfit and creates balance for a camera-ready face.

Tried and trusted brands

For women seeking staying power, Killian gives a nod to Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Foundation. Known for its 24-hour wear and luminous-matte finish, it gives the skin a natural glow without losing the long-lasting matte effect. For those battling humidity or hot flushes, Killian points to Huda Beauty’s Faux Filter Foundation, which is matte, self-setting, and removes the need for extra powder.

A look that keeps up with Every Occasion

From business meetings to weddings or a casual brunch with friends, these camera-ready tricks fit seamlessly into the lifestyle of modern South African women. Killian’s message is clear: the right foundation, a dusting of powder, and a careful eye on colour choice can transform everyday beauty into picture-perfect confidence.
