Wanted suspect killed in a shootout with KZN police

On 7 August 2022 at 18:30 Esikhaleni police received intelligence regarding a suspect that was wanted for business robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as attempted murder.

On 9 July 2022 at 20:00, five armed men entered a business premises at Kwanyanda Reserve where they demanded cash and airtime vouchers. The victim was stabbed before the suspects fled. A case of robbery and attempted murder was reported at Esikhaleni SAPS for investigation.

“The suspect was traced to a house in Nsimbini area where he was hiding. On arrival at the house the suspect opened fire at police officers. The 28-year-old suspect was fatally wounded during the shooting and was declared dead on scene.” said KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo.

“In the house police found a pistol and two magazines. A preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was working with a group of wanted suspects who are terrorising the community. ”
