Golden Arrows co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has said that SAFA TD Walter Steenbok has apologised to him and Mabhuti Khenyeza for saying the pair did not have any coaching qualifications.
Vilakazi was speaking after his side’s 5-2 defeat to Stellenbosch on Saturday, responding to a question about what he thought about Steenbok’s suggestion that all coaches in the PSL should have minimum qualifications.
It is believed that Steenbok’s utterances were the reason that the PSL opted to not attend SAFA events a week ago.
Vilakazi says that he thinks it’s a good initiative, and shared that Steenbok had apologised after incorrectly stating that the Golden Arrows co-coaches had no qualifications.
“I was also victimised [laughs],” Vilakazi said after the Stellies game.
“I think it is a good initiative that the technical director was talking about.
“It’s a pity that he was not fully informed. But he’s new in the office, I forgive him because he was supposed to check the database before mentioning our names unfortunately.
“We are qualified but he apologized. He sent an SMS to me and apologized for his statement.
“But I think I’m not too sure as to what is happening because what I know is that every time at the beginning of the season, we are asked to submit our certificates to the PSL, everyone so I wasn’t sure as to if he does have that information or not.
“But as I’ve said that the guy is new in the in the office, but maybe we also need to question his qualifications as well for the position, but it’s fine.”
