Five people have reportedly been killed in yet another shooting, this time in the south of Lenasia, Johannesburg.

Another four people have reportedly been killed in another string of random bullets in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.

It has also emerged that a shooting took place in Bloemfontein where two people are apparently killed.

ANOTHER RANDOM SHOOTING IN GAUTENG

According to reports, the Gauteng incident happened on Saturday night in the Thembelihle informal settlement. Gunmen apparently fired shots at random people in the streets, reportedly killing five.

Reports state that two other people were seriously injured during the shooting.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela and other senior police officials are at the scene. They are apparently joined by MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko. An official statement is yet to be sent.

But according to Everson Luhanga of Scrolla.Africa, who is at the scene, officers at the scene state that the gunmen opened fire randomly. Police have cordoned off the area.

“At the moment, we don’t know the motive as the scene is very fresh, and trying to get more information,” officers said.

A resident reportedly said the men did not target anyone specifically. Instead, they shot at everyone. The resident said he was terrified. “I have never seen anything like it,” he said in anonymity.

BLOEMFONTEIN AND KHAYELITSHA GUNFIRE

Reports have emerged of another attack in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. In the latest reported shooting, so far four people have been killed in Nyebelele.

Last month, four men were killed in the area by gunmen who attacked a house in Tulbagh. The week before the shooting, bodies of two men and a woman were found in a shack in Delft.

Another deadly shooting apparently occurred in Bloemfontein’s Central Park. Two men were reportedly shot dead.

GAUTENG PLAGUED BY SHOOTINGS IN THE PAST WEEK

Just on Friday, a massacre took place across Alexandra with a similar modus operandi. It’s alleged an armed gang has been terrorising the Alexandra community for weeks. The random shootings in the Gauteng township took the life of popular and award-winning Alex FM music manager Joshua Mbatha.

Mbatha is among five people killed during the random gunfire across the township. Seven suspects aged between 23 and 33 years are detained. According to police, the suspects are locals of the area. The suspects were found in possession of firearms, ammunition and cellphones, said Minister of Police spokesperson Lirandzu Themba.

“Police Minister Bheki Cele confirms that the motive for the Alexandra shooting, at this stage, points to robbery.”

This brings the total death toll to 32 deaths in the province. Last weekend, 16 people died after a shooting at a tavern in Nomzamo informal settlement in Orlando East, Soweto. In the same weekend, four people were killed when armed men fired shots at patrons at a tavern in Katlehong.
