Ugly Scenes As Zwane Hit By Object After Chiefs Loss

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane was hit by an object hurled at him by angry fans and needed treatment after his side’s 1-0 defeat to SuperSport United.

Chiefs lost their 11th game of the season – a new negative record in the PSL era – and are now without a chance to still qualify for a CAF inter-club competition next season.

Zwane’s side have now lost four out of their last five games in all competitions, which resulted in ugly scenes at Royal Bafokeng Stadium, as fans hurled objects at Zwane and some of the players as they walked off the pitch.

According to Mark Gleeson for MTNFC, Zwane was hit by a bottle and cut underneath the eye, needing treatment, which made him miss the post-match press conference, where assistant Dillon Sheppard represented Amakhosi.

A few minutes before the ugly scenes, the coach expressed his unhappiness with his players’ attitude, in particular in the first half.

“Our attitude sometimes is something that you cannot control, it comes from the players,” he told SuperSport TV.

“First of all, we’re playing for a third spot – we win the game and we close the gap. It should come from you, you can come up with tactics, you can come up with everything.

“Maybe the game that we played last week took a lot from us. I think they tried… Maybe [the last] 15 minutes of the game, we looked like we can create something out of nothing.

“Apart from that, we’re not in the game. First half, we’re just going through the motions, giving the ball away cheaply in the middle, because we made them look good.

“They did not win the ball from us [but] we kept on losing the ball, giving the ball to them. We got punished again from sloppy defending and if you look at that goal we could’ve done better in terms of conceding.

“That has been the story of our season.”

Chiefs are yet to make a statement on the incident.
