In a distressing event in Kanana Ext 4, Tembisa, five men lost their lives during an alleged mob justice attack on Monday.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, a call was received by the police around 05:50 reporting the incident.

“Five men were found dead. The suspicion is that they were stoned to death by community members. No one has been arrested. A case of murder, with five counts, is opened for further investigations,” Nevhuhulwi explained.

Eyewitness Johannes Dolo, who shared his account with News24, mentioned that he encountered injured men on his way to work, claiming they were shot and robbed.

“I saw two guys lying down, while the other tried to stop cars on the road. I approached one of them, and they said they were shot and robbed. They said they escaped towards Phomolong, where I saw them,” he recounted.

Dolo further revealed that three men were taken to the Esangweni clinic by motorists, including an e-hailing driver and a taxi driver.

While it remains unclear if the men Dolo encountered were part of the same attack, Nevhuhulwi urged the community not to take the law into their own hands.

“The public is urged not to take the law into their own hands but rather work with the police by reporting any criminal activities on the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or anonymously give tip-offs on MySapsApp.”
