In the early hours of Monday morning, a devastating crash occurred on the R42 road near Delmas, resulting in the tragic loss of ten lives. The collision, which took place around 1 am, involved a minibus taxi and a bus-truck.
Mpumalanga Community Safety spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, confirmed that eight of the deceased were occupants of the minibus taxi, including its driver, while the remaining two victims were in the bus truck.

The collision reportedly occurred as the minibus taxi, which was initially travelling on the N12 road from Johannesburg, attempted to return to the N12 from the R42.
The taxi was headed towards Emalahleni, pulling a trailer, while the bus truck was en route to Bronkhorstspruit. The exact cause of the accident remains unknown, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the factors that led to this tragic event.
Aside from the ten fatalities, approximately 24 people sustained serious injuries in the crash. Among the injured, 18 were occupants of the bus truck, and six were in the minibus taxi.
Emergency services promptly transported the injured individuals to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. The severity of the injuries underscores the catastrophic nature of the accident and the urgent need for comprehensive road safety measures.
