Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, the spokesperson for Hawks in the Western Cape, stated that the arrest was carried out by members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Bellville.

The incident dates back to September 2023 when Ruiters, who works as a traffic official, allegedly demanded R15,000 from a motorist she had arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The matter was reported to the Hawks for investigation, leading to Ruiters’ subsequent arrest. She appeared in court on the same day and was granted R1,000 bail. The case has been postponed until April 5 to allow for further investigation.

Major General Mathipa Makgato, the head of the Hawks in the Western Cape, commended his team for the arrest.

He emphasized that law enforcement officials have a responsibility to uphold and enforce the law, and he hoped that this incident would serve as a strong message to other potential lawbreakers.
