Bafana Bafana legend Neil Tovey believes his former side AmaZulu can pull off an upset in the MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates.
Usuthu are vying for their first title in the Premier Soccer League era, while Pirates will be looking to secure the trophy for life, should they triumph for the fourth time in the history of the competition.
It will be the last time this version of the trophy is used, the sponsor confirmed this week and the Buccaneers will have the chance to secure it, permanently,
But Tovey feels it’s not all set in stone that the Soweto giants will scoop the first domestic title of the 2022/23 campaign and their derby defeat to Kaizer Chiefs could provide a chance for Usuthu.
“If they (Pirates) won the Derby they would have come to the AmaZulu match full of confidence, but now there are two ways – they can come out and say ‘we want to redeem ourselves or they are there for the taking,” Tovey told iDiski Times.
“You need to start very well, and AmaZulu needs to start well and make sure that when they do get their chances, they take their chances because that’s what cup finals are all
about.
“I have seen so many times that not necessarily the best teams win the cup final. So I want AmaZulu to put in a very good performance, that they are capable of. But you are going to need all the players to come to the party and put in a performance.”
