Title race heat up as PLK City and Casric Stars go level on points

The Motsepe Foundation Championship title race is heating up as Polokwane City, and Casric Stars are now level at the top.

Polokwane City bounced back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory against Magesi. City suffered a 3-1 defeat against Limpopo rivals Baroka last Saturday at the Global Stadium.

Rise and Shine walked away with the Limpopo derby bragging rights after handing Magesi their third successive defeat.

Polokwane City remain top of the table in National First Division [NFD] with 33 points after 16 games played.

CASRIC STARS BOOST TITLE ASPIRATIONS

Elsewhere, Casric Stars boosted their title aspirations with a 2-1 victory over Uthongathi at Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

MM Platinum, famously known as La Masia, dropped into the relegation zone after playing a 1-1 against JDR Stars at Shoshanguve Giant Stadium.

La Masia are winless in their last five encounters in the second tier and positioned 15th on the league table with 15 points.

The Westbury-based side have won four games and drawn three while losing on nine occasions after 16 games played.

Venda Football Academy moved out of the drop zone after beating Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila 2-1 in the Vhembe Derby on Saturday.

LEOPARDS AT THE BASEMENT

Black Leopards remain rooted at the basement of the NFD log after playing to an entertaining 2-2 draw against University of Pretoria.

AmaTuks finished runners-up in the 2021/22 campaign behind Richards Bay, who gained automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership.

Meanwhile, Baroka failed to claim all the maximum points against Pretoria Callies at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium after playing to a 1-1 draw.

The remaining Championship fixture will see Cape Town Spurs host All Stars at Athlone Stadium on Monday, 30th of January. Kick off is at 15:30.
