Tinkler urges his players to change their mindset

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler is concerned by the inconsistency in terms of performances shown by his team since the beginning of the season.

The Citizens have blown hot and cold in 2022/23 and have only won once in their last five matches in all competitions.

City went down 2-1 to Marumo Gallants in a DStv Premiership match at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It was their fifth defeat in 12 matches this season.

“You can’t be winning one week then not getting the results the other week. The mindset has to change from everyone,” said Tinkler.

“Right now, the mindset needs to change. If you want to be involved in all these competitions you have to change your mindset because if you have the mindset that you currently have then I am sorry. You are not going to cope in either (competition).”

PLAYERS NEED TO LEARN

“This is going to affect you in both competitions. Because you have two or three days between games, be it a league match or be it a CAF game.

“You get into a group stage and that problem is going to continue, should you get into the group stage. So, the mindset has to change, from everyone and realize that this is not easy, this is hard, except it. That’s a hard lesson that players need to learn.”

TINKLER ON CAF ASSIGNMENT

“There is nothing we can do because there is no preparation time. I can’t work miracles; I am not a miracle maker.

“If I got one day to prepare for a game then I got one day to prepare for the game. It’s a big game and normally you would want at least a week to prepare for that.

“So, we are going to go out there and do the best we possibly can with what we have and the little time that we have.”

City will host US Alger in a CAF Confederations cup encounter on Wednesday, 2 November.
