Tinkler aiming to make it five out of five | Breaking News

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says they are eying for a fifth consecutive league victory when they face red-hot Royal AM in Saturday’s DStv Premiership encounter that promises fireworks.

However, he admitted that it would not be an easy game as both sides have an identical goal of playing in the CAF Champions League next season. The Citizens and Thwihli Thwahla are fifth and second on the log with 39 and 43 points, respectively.

“We potentially could have our fifth win in a row, something that hasn’t been achieved at the club. So that’s a target, an objective,” Tinkler told the media.

Despite Mamelodi Sundowns being the 2021/22 league champions mathematically, the Citizens coach says continuing with the winning run will delay them being crowned.

“You would love that momentum going into the game at the end of the month against Mamelodi Sundowns. Let’s not give them the league yet.”

The 51-year-old expects a tricky tie because their opponents have proved this season that they are a difficult team to defeat.

“They (Royal AM) have proven to be a very stubborn and difficult team to score against. The majority of the teams that have played against them have created more chances than them and have had more possession than them, and yet Royal AM has somehow always managed to get the final result and win the match.”

Kickoff at Cape Town Stadium is at 15:00.
