  • Three suspects were killed and one injured after a high-speed chase and shootout with police on the N12 on Wednesday.
  • The confrontation followed a robbery of a courier vehicle in Tokoza, which triggered a multi-unit law enforcement operation.
  • Police seized two firearms and suspected stolen property from the silver Corolla used by the gang during the escape.

Three suspected criminals were killed and a fourth was injured during a violent confrontation with law enforcement on the N12 motorway on Wednesday.

The shootout occurred after the group allegedly targeted a courier vehicle in Tokoza.

Following the robbery, police “operationalised information” and tracked the suspects to a silver Toyota Corolla. When officers intercepted the vehicle on Kliprivier Road, the suspects fled, sparking a high-speed pursuit toward Soweto.

The chase ended in a hail of gunfire between the Xavier and Soweto off-ramps. According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the suspects opened fire on police before their vehicle was forced to a standstill.

Three men were declared dead at the scene, while the fourth was transported to hospital under police guard.

Inside the vehicle, officers recovered two firearms and a cache of suspected stolen goods.
