While Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 2-0 win over Orbit College FC, the victory came at a heavy price.

Two key players will now miss the club’s next Betway Premiership fixture against Marumo Gallants on Tuesday, 17 March at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

Kick-off is at 19:30.

Automatic suspensions

Defenders Khuliso Mudau and Aubrey Modiba both collected their fourth yellow cards of the season, resulting in automatic suspensions.

Coach Miguel Cardoso faces a headache in reshuffling his defence ahead of what is a crucial match, with both players being central to Mamelodi Sundowns’ defensive stability.

Their joint absences could leave the Brazilians vulnerable and give rivals Orlando Pirates a chance to close the gap at the top of the table.

Undermine momentum

Despite the win that moved Mamelodi Sundowns to 47 points, three clear of Orlando Pirates, the loss of Mudau and Modiba could undermine momentum.

Mudau’s pace and tackling, combined with Modiba’s defensive positioning and ball-playing ability, have been crucial to Masandawana’s success this season.
