‘They should have a coach by now’: Mudau warns Kaizer Chiefs

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Johannes ‘Bricks’ Mudau has warned Amakhosi on delaying to sign a new head coach.

The Soweto giants parted ways with co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze last month. Since then, the club has been without a coach.

Mudau told KickOff that the club should be planning for pre-season under a new coach.

“They should be having a coach by now so that he starts planning for the pre-season; they should have started searching for a coach from the second round of last season, to enable you as a club to start approaching the players he would want for next season,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs still coachless

Amakhosi have had close to 10 coaches in the past 10 years but only have one trophy to show.

Mudau felt a new manager might be unable to bring in the players he wants.

“But the norm here in South Africa is, when the season ends they fire a coach, buy players, and only then they do hire a coach,” he added..

“And when the coach arrives, he says, so and so, you’ve just signed, I don’t need them. And by that time, as a club, you have already given those new players three-year contracts. Then you are stuck with players you won’t use.”

Kaizer Chiefs will undergo their pre-season in Europe in two weeks.
