The first episode of Idols SA season 18 premiered on Sunday 17 July and new judge Thembi Seete has already become a fan-favourite. The new season also welcomed music executive JR Bogopa and reality star Somizi Mhlongo, who was on the previous season but took time off after his estranged husband, Mohale Motaung, accused him of abuse.

‘IDOLS SA’ PREMIERE

Legendary musicians Thembi Seete and JR Bogopa replaced former Idols SA judges Unathi Nkayi and Randall Abrahams who left after the season 17 finalé. According to Channel24, Mzansi Magic said it was not renewing Nkayi and Abrahams’ contracts.

Season 18 started off on a high note with Zadwesh Tshatshu entering as the first contestant of the new season. The 25-year-old brought his guitar along for the performance but Somizi requested he continues his audition without his instrument.

At the end of day one auditions, the judges were excited to see what else Mzansi has to offer.
