The Nozulu Youth Legacy Cup roars to life

It’s all systems go as the inaugural Nozulu Youth Legacy Cup is set to kickoff from 24 to 26 March at Msobomvu Grounds in Butterworth, Eastern Cape.

The U/16s boys tournament will keep football lovers in Gqeberha entertained during the entire weekend.

The launch of the tournament was done on Tuesday 21 March at Butterworth Town Hall, consisting of 16 teams that were split in five groups.

NOZULU YOUTH LEGACY CUP’S MAIN GOAL

The brains behind the brilliant tournament is DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United general manager Luxolo Matikinca. According to Matikinca, the competition provides teens a dream of making football a career.

The organisers are also planning to make the cup an annual competition.

“Its an opportunity for the youngsters to showcase their talent and play to a higher level,” Matikinca told FARPost.

“The main aim is to address lack of talent in the Eastern Cape and bridge a gap in youngsters’ development. This in turn will help these boys to stay focused and disciplined.

“At the end of the tournament, we’ll hand individual awards to best performers; goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, striker and player of the tournament. To add, we’ll also hand an award to the coach of the tournament.”

Matikinca also revealed that there have invited scouts from PSL teams to come and search for raw talent.

“There will be scouts from PSL teams who will be out searching for raw talent. So far, Sekhukhune United and Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed. We still waiting for TS Galaxy confirmation,” he added.

The player of the tournament will have a career changing opportunity as he will jet to Denmark with the U/17 team to participate in a tournament in July.
